“May/Mei”, C-Print, 33” X 38”, 2009

After living between two cultures, I see myself as two distinct individuals: Chinese Mei and Canadian May. They sit side by side, communicating through “cell phones,” each trying to understand their identity and sense of belonging in the context of these contrasting worlds. Yet, no clear answers emerge, and perhaps they no longer matter. Instead, this search becomes part of a larger cycle—one generation responding to the experiences of the last, endlessly shaping and reshaping identity.
