Interweaving
As a child, I watched my mother and grandmother weave, their shuttles flying to a “chirping” song that brought clolors and patterns to life. With globalization, those looms have disappeared, yet the memory of that rhythmic weaving remains vivid—a thread connecting me to my roots.
My family joined China’s great migration from countryside to city, and in time, I crossed the Pacific to Canada. My life changed dramatically in this new country, and I began the journey of re-identifying myself as Chinese-Canadian. I experienced both peace and conflict, adapting to my new environment while feeling the constant pull of my origins.
Weaving became my way to explore who I am, intertwining my Chinese roots with my Canadian experience. Each thread carries memories of the past, blending with my present to create something new. My art now reflects this evolving, layered identity—a fusion of East and West, past and future.
